ChevronTexaco Journal Bearing Oil
Categories: Fluid; Lubricant

Material Notes: Features

Chevron Journal Bearing Oil is a high quality, high viscosity index, paraffinic-based lubricant. It incorporates highly effective deposit control antioxidants and rust inhibitors as well as a pour point depressant and viscosity index improver for outstanding year round railroad journal box lubrication.

This product is formulated to exceed the requirements of Association of American Railroads (AAR) Specification M 963 84 for All-Year Journal Box Lubricating Oil.

Chevron Journal Bearing Oil is designed for use in the journal boxes of railcars using plain bearings, not antifriction bearings. The journal box is filled with a waste material which is saturated with Chevron Journal Bearing Oil. The waste, which is against the journal, is heated by friction as the car rolls, causing the oil to slowly feed into the journal bearing. For this reason, a high viscosity index oil is critical. It must have good fluidity at low temperatures and not think excessively at high temperatures.

Chevron Journal Bearing Oil passes:

  • ASTM D 665 Rust Test
  • ASTM D 1748 Corrosion Humidity Cabinet Test

Applications

Chevron Journal Bearing Oil is recommended for the lubrication of journal bearings on the trucks of railcars where a lubricant meeting the requirements of AAR Specification M-963-84 for All-Year Journal box lubricating oil is recommended.
