Covestro DESMOPHEN® T 1665 SN/IB Polyurethane
Categories: Polymer; Thermoset; Polyurethane, TS

Material Notes: Characterization: Amino-functional co-reactant for polyisocyanates. For the manufacture of high-solids, two-component polyurethane coating formulations.

Properties / Applications :Desmophen T 1665 SN/IB is intended primarily for the baking sector. It is used in the formulation of:Primers and primer surfacers: Hard, highly elastic and sandable primers and primer surfacers can be formulated by combination with amino resins and the addition of epoxy or baking urethane resins. The primer surfacers are further characterised by their good stone-chip resistance which is greatly enhanced by the addition of baking urethane resins (e.g. Desmodur BL 3175).Coil coatings:Coil coatings can be formulated by combination with baking urethane and amino resins. A proven baking urethane resin recommended for this application is Desmodur BL 3175. Coatings formulated in this way display high elasticity coupled with good hardness and resistance to scratching and abrasion. Dibutyltin dilaurate is a suitable catalyst. The recommended addition is 0.3 - 1.0%, calculated on the solvent-free resin. If working with amino resins, preferably hexamethoxymethyl melamine, a combination ratio of between 90 : 10 and 80 : 20 is recommended. Depending on the amino resin chosen, acid catalysts (either free or blocked) are required. The recommended addition is 0.2 - 0.6%, calculated on the solvent-free resin. Depending on the type of combination resin used, the baking temperature will be 210 - 241°C PMT (peak metal temperature). Industrial coatings: In the formulation of industrial coatings and finishes for household appliances, a Desmophen T/amino resin ratio of between 80 : 20 and 75 : 25 is recommended. This yields paint films characterized by high elasticity and hardness, resistance to household chemicals and excellent single-coat adhesion. They also display very good gloss retention and anti-yellowing properties, even in the event of long-term exposure to temperatures up to 160°C. As with any product, use of Desmophen T 1665 SN/IB in a given application must be tested (including but not limited to field testing) in advance by the user to determine suitability.
