Lanxess Uniplex 260 Plastic Additive
Categories: Other Engineering Material; Additive/Filler for Polymer

Material Notes: Uniplex 260 is a solid polyol benzoate plasticizer, processing aid and modifier for a wide range of polymers, including polyester, acrylic resins, polyvinyl acetate, cellophane and nitrocellulose. Uniplex 260 is especially recommend for use in heat seal applications and coatings.

Chemical composition: Glyceryl Tribenzoate

General Uniplex 260 is a solid polyol benzoate plasticizer, processing aid and modifier for a wide range of polymers, including polyester, acrylic resins, polyvinyl acetate, cellophane and nitrocellulose. Uniplex 260 is especially recommend for use in heat seal applications and coatings.

Applications: Uniplex 260 is used as a heat-activatable plasticizer hot melt adhesives based on polyester, acrylic resins and polyvinyl acetate. The adhesion promoting plasticizer improves the heat seal properties of cellophane and nitrocellulose coatings. Uniplex 260 is particularly suitable for use in hot melt adhesives. When used in polyvinyl acetate-based adhesives it must be ensured that the temperature of mixing and processing up to the end use bonding remains below the melting point of the product; melting of Uniplex 260 results in an essentially irreversible tackifying and plasticizing of the coating. Typically, a high shear mixer is used to reduce the particle size of the Uniplex 260 formulation until a smooth stable dispersion is obtained. Uniplex 260 may be incorporated at levels of 20 to 40 parts based on 100 parts polymer. Uniplex 260 may be used in cellophane coatings to improve heat-seal properties, without affecting color and clarity of the film. Uniplex 260 an outstanding plasticizer for nitrocellulose coatings, lacquers and films where it promotes heat-sealability and adhesion, and creates a moisture barrier. Suggested applications for Uniplex 260 are:

  • plasticizer in nail lacquer
  • printing inks
  • adhesives
  • metallic and pigmented surface coatings
  • extrusion and injection molding processing aids
  • cleaning material for hot melt roll coaters.
Uniplex 260 is used when US regulations and recommendations governing food contacting applications need to be met. More information is available on request.
