Phenyl silicone – or methyl phenyl silicone – is a polydimethylsiloxane with phenyl groups. The phenyl content improves various properties such as oxidation resistance, thermal stability, shear resistance and optical clarity. Typical applications: Typical applications for use with connectors for cables and sealing for automotive and aerospace markets where ultra low temp is required. Advantages: The most prominent characteristic is flexibility at extreme temperatures, with operational ranges between -90 °F to +500 °F. Also, by blending phenyl silicone with silicone and fluorosilicone elastomers, we can optimize properties of the overall material. Disadvantages: Poor impermeability to gas, not resistant to hydrocarbon-based fuels, aromatic hydrocarbons(benzene, toluene), low molecular weight silicone oils, strong acids and alkalis. It is regarded as mechanically weak. Information provided by CLWYD COMPOUNDERS LTD. |
