Master Bond MasterSil 170 Gel Two component, addition curing silicone gel for sealing, potting and encapsulation
Categories: Polymer; Thermoset; Silicone

Material Notes: Key Features:
  • Super soft upon curing
  • Convenient handling
  • Great optical clarity
  • Superb electrical insulator
Master Bond MasterSil 170 Gel is a two component, low viscosity silicone material for specialty potting and encapsulation. It is an addition cured system and does not require exposure to air for complete cross-linking. It has a forgiving one to one mix ratio by weight and will not outgas while curing. The system is 100% solids and contains no solvents. Upon mixing the viscosity is quite low and it has excellent flowability. It generates very little heat upon mixing and has a relatively long open time. MasterSil 170 Gel cures in 24-48 hours at ambient temperatures, or in 1-2 hours at 150-170°F. The system cures to be very soft, pliable and compliant with a hardness best measured by the penetration test method; for this system it is 65 mm. Upon curing, this silicone gel is transparent and is capable of withstanding temperatures ranging from -67°F to +392°F. It is capable of withstanding the most rigorous and extreme thermal shock and cycling without cracking or exerting stress on to components or substrates. These properties allow MasterSil 170 Gel to be used with sensitive or delicate optical and electronic parts. These components might be wire bonds, optical fibers, various chips, LEDs and resistors. Optically, the index of refraction is low and it transmits light very well from about 220-2,500 nm. This silicone gel can also be used in other types of applications where a low stress highly pliable sealant is needed. The properties of this system allow for relatively simple repairability.

Product Advantages:

  • Addition cured; no by-products released during cure; does not require air for curing
  • Low exotherm; very long pot life
  • Can cure in thicknesses beyond 1 inch
  • Very low shrinkage upon cure
  • Excellent optical clarity and transmission properties
  • Superior electrical insulation properties; highly resistant to water
