Thermal Ceramics Sonite 1800
Categories: Ceramic

Material Notes: Sonite is a resilient, acoustically-efficient, microporous material formed from fibrous media and very fine particulate matter.

Sonite’s impressive characteristics of low relative acoustic impedance over a broad range of ambient pressures make it ideal for use as an acoustic release for sonar devices in mid-to-deep ocean applications.

Sonite’s acoustic loss is similar to solid glass with an impedance ranging from 72,000 to 200,000 lb/sq ft/sec. Its characteristics remain virtually consistent regardless of applied pressure.

Sonite is capable of supporting large compressive loads with minimum strain. It may be repeatedly stressed to its rated pressure without changing its physical, mechanical or acoustical properties.

Sonite is supplied in standard 9 x 9 inch blocks in various thicknesses and densities with four specific relative impedance and stress-strain characteristics. Sonite can be molded to specific shapes or special dimensions. Custom designs are available with pressure capabilities up to 10,000 psi.
