Honeywell A-C® 578P MAPE copolymer
Categories: Polymer; Thermoplastic; Polyethylene (PE); Anhydride-Modified Polyethylene

Material Notes: Ethylene maleic anhydride copolymer in pastille form. The functionalization of a non-polar polyethylene with 2% maleic anhydride, yielding a SAP # of 20, provides the low molecular weight copolymer with non-polar and polar characteristics. The grafting of maleic anhydride provides polarity without polymer degradation, such as oxidation will. The maleic anhydride provides the ability to boost adhesion, making it very suitable for adhesive applications. This lower level of maleic anhydride, along with a patented Honeywell grafting process, aids thermal stability and more highly maleated versions. Provides a boost in low surface energy and cold temperature adhesion in hot melt adhesive systems. Used as a coupling agent in composites and filled polymer systems.
