Cabot CAB-O-SILĀ® H-5 Fumed Silica
Categories: Other Engineering Material

Material Notes: CAB-O-SIL H-5 fumed silica is a high surface area fumed silica that can impart a significant increase in the viscosity of liquid systems, and both reinforcement and viscosity of sealants and rubbers. All untreated fumed silicas are characterized by:
  • High purity
  • Aggregated structure
  • Submicron particle size
  • Low bulk density
  • Hydrophilic surface chemistry
Application information:
Rheology Control for Coatings, Adhesive and other Liquid Systems: CAB-O-SIL H-5 fumed silica can be used to provide thickening, thixotropic (shearthinning), and anti-settling behavior in liquid systems. High shear dispersion equipment is required to realize the full benefits of H-5 fumed silica. For clear coatings and other systems, well-dispersed CAB-O-SIL H-5 fumed silica allows for good transparency. CAB-O-SIL H-5 fumed silica is most suited for building viscosity in non-polar to medium polarity systems. For more polar systems, treated fumed silicas are more efficient in building viscosity.
Reinforcement of Silicone and Organic Rubber: CAB-O-SIL H-5 fumed silica can be used for reinforcement of silicone rubber and can be used to reinforce organic rubbers. It imparts good increase in hardness, tensile strength and elongation.
