Product highlights: CAB-O-SIL TS-620 fumed silica is a medium surface area fumed silica which has been surface modified with dimethyldichlorosilane. The treatment replaces some of the hydroxyls on the surface of the silica, resulting in increased hydrophobicity and very different performance than untreated silica. CAB-O-SIL TS-620 fumed silicas is characterized by: - High purity
- Aggregated structure
- Submicron particle size
- Low bulk density
- Hydrophobic surface chemistry
Key applications: CAB-O-SIL TS-620 fumed silica is used primarily for rheology control in non-polar to medium polarity inks, coatings, silicones and adhesives. CAB-O-SIL TS-620 fumed silica can be an effective thickener in non-polar to medium polarity systems. Although its thickening potential is lower than that of an untreated fumed silica of equal base surface area, the different thixotropic response of CAB-O-SIL TS-620 fumed silica can provide better flow and leveling, resulting in better surface appearance for final products. In moisture-sensitive systems such as urethanes and silicones, the hydrophobic surface of CAB-O-SIL TS-620 fumed silica introduces less moisture than an untreated silica of comparable base surface area typically does. The benefits of decreased moisture are reduction in the amount of moisture scavengers and increased storage stability for the formulation. The surface chemistry of CAB-O-SIL TS-620 fumed silica is more compatible with non-polar systems than untreated silica, allowing for easier incorporation and better dispersion.Information provided by Cabot Corporation |
