Wacker Silres® K Silicone Resin
Categories: Polymer; Thermoset; Silicone

Material Notes: Product description: SILRES® K is a solution of a methyl silicone resin in toluene. The silicone resin itself has a very high concentration of SiO2 (after complete oxidation: approx. 80% SiO2, expressed in terms of solid resin [DSC]). It is therefore an ideal binder for applications where temperatures exceed 300°C. As SILRES® K evolves less smoke and offers greater binding strength, it is much superior to phenyl silicone resins.

Special features:

  • 80% SiO2 content, expressed in terms of solid resin
  • high binding strength
  • little smoke evolution on pyrolysis
  • excellent thermal stability
Application: By virtue of its high SiO2 content, SILRES® K is the standard binder for the production of rigid, silicone resin-bound mica insulators and compression molding compounds for electrical engineering. SILRES® K is also an excellent binder for mica splitting.
