Aluminum Titanium Nitride (AlTiN) PVD Coating
Categories: Ceramic; Nitride; Other Engineering Material; Ceramic/Metallic Coating

Material Notes: Also called Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN); it is a complex structure consisting of TiN and AlN bonds in a crystalline matrix. This black colored coating is a high performance coating which is good at machining of abrasive and difficult-to-machine materials such as cast iron, aluminum alloys, tool steels, and nickel alloys. TiAlN offers improved ductility that makes it an outstanding choice for interrupted cutting operations, while its superior oxidation resistance provides good performance in high temperature machining. Typical coating thickness is 1-5 µm. Adhesion measured by scratch test is 70/80 N. Lower friction and higher hardness than TiAlN.
