2-ethylhexanol is produced by propylene oxonation to n-butyraldehyde and by subsequent aldolization and hydrogenation. It is a transparent, colourless, flammable liquid of a characteristic odour, hardly water-soluble. 2-ethylhexanol is used for production of acrylic acid esters, softening agents for plastics and synthetic rubber, components of synthetic lubricants and further as a solvent of oils, greases, waxes and resins.Information provided by Unipetrol RPA |
