Maxxam™ FR flame-retardant polyolefin compounds and masterbatches meet stringent flammability performance requirements defined by industry agencies, including Underwriters Laboratories UL 94 V-2, V-0, and 5VA performance ratings. In addition, many compounds in the Maxxam FR portfolio offer elevated Relative Thermal Index (RTI) ratings. MAXXAM FR PP CONC 36 NAT S is designed to impart good flame retardancy to polypropylene. Because there are so many varieties of polypropylene, it is difficult to predict the required let-down ratio required to meet the specific flammability standards. When the concentrate is let down at the proper ratio the resulting material can achieve flame retardancy equivalent to the requirements for UL94 V-2 or UL94 V-0. For starting point formulations we would suggest 7 to 8 parts by weight of polypropylene to 1 part of Conc 36 for UL94 V-2 performance and 2 to 3 parts by weight polypropylene to 1 part of Conc 36 for UL94 V-0 performance at thicknesses between 0.75 and 3.0 mm.
