Hybrid Plastics Nanoreinforced® POSS® Polyimide
Categories: Polymer; Thermoplastic; Polyimide, Thermoplastic

Material Notes: Nanoreinforced® POSS® Polyimide is a hybrid nanocomposite that can serve as oxidation resistant and highly bondable form of polyimide. Upon exposure to oxidizing oxygen the POSS® polyimide generates a nanoscopically thin glassy layer on the surface. The nanoscopic glass layer in turn provides a barrier to further oxidation and improved the surface toward adhesion and bonding. Other benefits from POSS® polyimides are better flame retardancy, lower CTE, and higher use temperature, while maintaining existing mechanicals. The product is supplied in a premixed 15 wt% solution of poly (amic acid) and POSS® in NMP. POSS® concentration is predefined as 5wt% or in higher loadings upon request.
