Akrochem PEG 3350 Polyethylene Glycol
Categories: Other Engineering Material

Material Notes: Product Description: PEG 3350 is an effective activator employed when compounding with silica and clay fillers. PEG 3350 overcomes the retarding effect caused by various mineral pigments, improving both cure rate and state of cure. PEG 3350 also functions as a process aid in rubber compounds, which may otherwise be difficult to process. Lubrication and release of EPDM extrusions (including black-loaded compounds) is much improved. The presence of PEG 3350 in EPDM will also reduce accelerator bloom and iridescence due to the polarity added to the polymer. The polarity promotes microwave curing of EPDM. In addition, PEG 3350 can function as a mandrel or mold release for foam and mechanical goods. PEG 3350 is suitable for use in all types of polymers using non-black fillers. Typical dosages range from 1.5 to 3.0 phr. Up to 4 phr is used in EPDM extrusions. PEG has FDA status under 175.105 and 178.3750. Polyethylene glycols used in rubber vary in molecular weight from 2000 to 8000 with the PEG 3350 covering virtually all general applications.
