Addition of SiC into the aluminum matrix produces a resulting composite with the low density of aluminum but a higher modulus similar to steel. Composite has high fatigue resistance and excellent damping properties. The CTE can be significantly lower than unreinforced aluminum. Al-SiC can be produced by a variety of forming processes including casting, infiltration of SiC preforms, and powder metallurgical routes.
