Gantrade Placcel® FM 5 Caprolactone-modified Methacrylate Oligomeric Monomer
Categories: Fluid

Material Notes: Caprolactone-modified methacrylate (FM-series) oligomeric monomers contain caprolactone chains with a primary hydroxyl end-functionality. These unique hydroxyl terminated oligomeric methacrylates are copolymerized in acrylic and styrenic resin systems where they can be subsequently crosslinked with isocyanate or melamine crosslinking agents. They are also used in the preparation of urethane acrylates.

By positioning the primary hydroxyl function away from the main chain in an acrylic copolymer, formulator engineer these oligomeric caprolactone acrylates to achieve the following benefits:

  • Higher cure speeds with crosslinking agents, higher productivity, and efficiencies
  • Enhanced impact resistance, elongations, and flexibility in the crosslinked product
  • Balancing hardness and softness
  • Improved chemical resistance, especially to fuels and solvents
  • Increases in the mechanical properties and durability of the cured resins
  • Improved abrasion resistance, adhesion and better pigment wetting
  • Weatherability improvements
The crosslinkable caprolactone-modified methacrylates are used in automotive coatings, plastic and elastomer coatings, cementitious coatings, powder coatings, paints, adhesives, and printing inks. The hydroxyalkyl caprolactone methacrylates are also reacted with isocyanates to produce urethane methacrylates used in UV-cured coatings.
