Product Information: Addolink THPE is used for the production of branched polycarbonates and suitable for both common production processes - the interfacial and the melt process. In the case of the interfacial process Addolink THPE can be added together with the bisphenol and other reaction components to the aqueous phase. It is also possible to add Addolink THPE dissolved in the organic solvent. With the melt process Addolink THPE can directly be added at the beginning of the process when the reaction components are melted. However, it can be advantageous if the branching agent is still added at the oligocarbonate stage before the final production of the higher-molecular weight polycarbonate. With Addolink THPE branched polycarbonates with a pronounced pseudoplastic behavior can be obtained. For example branched polycarbonates can favorable be used for the production of large hollow bodies by the extrusion blow molding or injection stretch blow molding process (improved stability under load of the parison) or for the production of twin-wall sheets and profiles with single-screw extruders. In contrast with other branching agents Addolink THPE is almost completely built into the polymer matrix and does not give noticeable discolorations of the end product even after repeated extrusions. Even with small amounts of Addolink THPE (approx. 0.2 - 0.5% related to the bisphenol component) branched polycarbonates with a pronounced pseudoplastic behavior are obtained.
