  • Mechanical Properties similar to pure zirconium, stronger and less ductile
  • Excellent corrosion resistance
  • Less absorption of hydrogen in corrosive water environments than Zircaloy-2
  • Transparent to thermal energy neutrons.
  • Forms a stable, dense, self-healing oxide layer
  • Highly anisotropic

Applications: Nuclear reactor service, cladding and internal structures

Machining Parameters: Use slow speeds, heavy feeds and flood cooling with a water-soluble oil lubricant.
