Lanxess X_Butyl™ I4565P Butyl Rubber
Categories: Polymer; Thermoset; Rubber or Thermoset Elastomer (TSE)

Material Notes: LANXESS X_Butyl™ I4565P is a new butyl polymer that possesses ionic groups on the polymer backbone. The ionic interactions produce large changes in physical, mechanical and rheological properties including improved green strength, thermoplastic elastomer behavior and superior adhesive properties compared to traditional butyl rubber. In addition, LANXESS X_Butyl™ I4565P is available in pellet form, allowing for ease of incorporation. It is recommended to use LANXESS X_Butyl™ I4565P as a compound modifier.

Key In addition to the key properties of butyl rubber such as impermeability, LANXESS X_Butyl™ I4565P has:

  • increased green strength
  • improved adhesion
  • enhanced crack growth resistance
  • improved polymer filler interactions
  • higher damping characteristics
  • greater tear strength
  • thermoplastic elastomer-like properties
  • resists bacteria, mold and algae growth
Benefits:
  • pellet form allows for ease of incorporation and faster throughput, particularly for adhesive and TPE applications
  • enhanced crack growth resistance may result in longer lasting product
  • increased polarity results in LANXESS X_Butyl™ I4565P being easily blended with common elastomers
Applications:
  • Used as a compound modifier for the following:
  • inner liner
  • power transmission belts
  • asphalt modification
  • adhesives & sealants
  • hoses
  • curing bladders
  • plastics modifier
  • NVH
