Bethlehem's proprietary RQC series of steel plate grades are an extension of ASTM A 678 and are offered in higher strength levels and thicknesses greater than those covered by the specification. The plate is heat treated by quenching and tempering to develop the specified high strength levels. The addition of copper is permitted to improve the corrosion resistance of the plate. Normal uses are demanding structural, machinery and industrial uses where weight reduction is important and notch toughness is a design consideration.
