Cast Nylon 6, a plastic of high molecular weight, is produced through an anionic polymerization of caprolactam. During the pressureless casting process the monomeric caprolactam melt is poured into the mold and directly polymerized by a specific chemical reaction and then forms a semi-finished product or molding. Addonyl® 8120 is used as an activator during the production of Cast Nylon (PA-6 G). In combination with the catalyst Addonyl® Kat NL and further products from the Addonyl series users can combine various properties to tailor materials specifically to requirements. Addonyl® 8120 is a solid activator which enables the simple weighing of the required amounts due to its coarse and free-flowing form. Due to the low proportion of the final material, it is mostly dust-free and thus contributes to work safety. Addonyl® 8120 and Addonyl® Kat NL enable short production intervals at simultaneously low processing temperatures. Furthermore, Addonyl® 8120 has the following advantages: - Addonyl® 8120 is a highly efficient activator and has a lower hazard potential than other comparable products
- As far as the dosage is concerned, the same reactivity can be achieved by using a 15-20% lower quantity than with common activators
- Addonyl® 8120 is considerably less hygroscopic than comparable solid activators due to the low caprolactam content
Use: The reactivity of the polymerizing melt is influenced by various factors. Lanxess recommends an activator concentration of at least 0.5% by weight. The quantity of the activator to be used decisively depends on the size and form of the casting mold.Information provided by Lanxess. |
