Celanese 50000446 Methyl Isobutyl Ketone (MIBK)
Categories: Fluid; Solvent

Material Notes: CAS Number: 108-10-1

Methyl Isobutyl Ketone (MIBK) is a colorless liquid exhibiting a faint ketonic and camphor-like odor. One of the most useful among the acetone derivate solvents, it has a medium evaporation rate. MIBK is stable and does not polymerize. MIBK is highly compatible with a variety of organic reagents and is a good solvent for a wide range of industrial materials..

Possible applications: End uses for MIBK include coating solvents, rare-metal extraction, process solvent for adhesives, ink formulations, leather finishing, pharmaceuticals, and as a chemical intermediate. MIBK is an excellent solvent for cellulose-based and resin-based coating systems. It is a useful solvent for pyrethrins, rubber cements and model dopes. It is a chemical intermediate for rubber antioxidants and specialty surfactants. MIBK contains dewaxing and separating properties, which can be used in the purification of different chemicals, mineral oils, tall oil, stearic acid and butanol.

Information provided by Celanese Corporation.
