Evonik ALBIPOX® 2002 DGEBF
Categories: Polymer; Thermoset; Epoxy

Material Notes: ALBIPOX® products are high-performance elastomer-modified epoxy resins. They are used mainly for toughening rigid and brittle epoxy resin systems. The elastomer used is a special nitrile rubber that is chemically linked to the epoxy resin. As the resin cures, phase separation occurs, imparting excellent properties to the end application. Compared to a similar unmodified epoxy resin, a cured system exhibits improved properties as follows:
  • improved toughness (fracture energy, fracture toughness, impact resistance)
  • much better mechanical properties at low temperatures
  • significantly improved adhesion to complicated substrates, for example, oil-treated steel
  • nearly unchanged heat-deflection temperature
  • no or minimal reduction in hardness, thermal, chemical, and aging stabilities
Using ALBIPOX® products produce toughened epoxy resin systems with an excellent price-performance ratio. ALBIPOX® products are silicone-free. ALBIPOX® products can be blended with all epoxy resins; no restrictions or incompatibilities exist. Any epoxy hardener desired can be used; the cure characteristics are not or nearly not affected by the toughening. Some ALBIPOX® products are used in pure form; while others contain nanosilica. ALBIPOX® 8001 is not a toughener, but a high-performance tackifier.

Application: ALBIPOX® products are used whenever a vast improvement in toughness over the whole temperature range is required. They are especially suitable for sophisticated structural adhesives and high performance fiber-reinforced composites. The following are some examples of applications:

  • adhesives (very high toughness, significantly improved crash resistance, excellent adhesion, very good low temperature properties
  • reinforcement patches, for example, for automobile construction
  • Composites (improved inter laminar shear strength, increased punching resistance, increased pressure resistance of pipes, improved processability
  • Casts, structural foams, and so forth
