Akrochem PROAID® AC 18S Process Aids
Categories: Other Engineering Material; Additive/Filler for Polymer

Material Notes: Product Description: PROAID AC 18S is a saturated stearamide primarily used as a surface lubricant in rubber articles and as an antiblock/slip agent in polyolefin films (LDPE and PP). In rubber it will bloom at low loadings (1-2 phr in NBR and CR; 3-5 phr in EPDM) from most elastomers creating a low coefficient of friction on the surface of molded goods. Proaid AC 18S will provide a non-oily, non-greasy lubricating film on exposed rubber surfaces. This material also acts as a process aid in all polymers. Well known as a Hypalon anti-slip, anti-blocking agent.

Applications: Proaid AC 18S’s surface lubrication effect can be used to improve a rubber's resistance to sliding abrasion, prevent galling of parts to dry metal surfaces, ease installation of rubber parts by letting them "slip" into position, and reduce sticking together of cured parts. Suggested Loadings: 0.25 - 2.00 phr for reduced surface tack on cured parts. 3.00 - 5.00 phr for low coefficient of friction surface and improved abrasion wear. Add up to 10 phr for a long-lasting bloom that is self-restoring. Due to the saturation of the stearamide, Proaid AC 18S has less effect on the rubber’s state-of-cure than Proaid AC 18E (our erucamide low coefficient-of-friction additive). AC 18S will bloom clearer than Akrochem’s Proaid LCF (our other saturated surface lubricant). Proaid AC 18S has FDA listing in CFR 21 Sections 175.105, 175.300, 176.180, 177.1200, 177.1210, 177.1350, 177.1400, and 178.3860. The high melt point of the stearamide typically means better slip properties among the amides (Proaid 18 S, E, and O). Proaid AC 18S is particularly used in chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSM) calendered compounds to reduce tack primarily in the uncured state, so that the stock can be rolled onto itself, thus eliminating a liner.
