Universal 6Al-4V titanium alloy is often repaired with the gas tungsten arc or gas metal arc welding process, provided adequate inert gas shielding of the filler wire and deposited weld metal is provided. As with all titanium alloys the affinity of hot weld metal for oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen is high. Properly shielded deposits are sound and ductile and perform well in airframe and turbine engine parts (blades, discs, wheels, spacer rings), ordinance equipment, pressure vessels and rocket motor cases. Information provided by Universal Wire Works for their line of welding wire and filler metal. |
