Alfa Chemistry Materials Ferrocene
Material Notes: Storage: Unusually stable

Applications: Ferrocene is used as a catalyst for vulcanization, acceleration, and polymerization, as a chemical intermediate for polymeric compounds such as high temperature polymers, as an antiknock additive for gasoline, as a coating for missiles and satellites, and as a high-temperature lubricant.

FERROCENE is an orange crystalline solid or orange-yellow powder. Camphor odor.

Dissolves in dilute nitric & concentrated sulfuric acids forming a deep red solution with blue fluorescence; molecule is diamagnetic & the dipole moment is effectively zero; volatile in steam; Resists pyrolysis at 400°C. The first compound shown to have the "sandwich" structure found in certain types of metallocene molecules.; Triple point 183°C; Heat of sublimation at 25°C is 70.2 kJ/mol.

Solubility in water less than 0.1 mg/mL at 70° F; Slightly sol in petroleum ether; Dissolves in dilute nitric and concentrated sulfuric acids; sol in alcohol, ether; practically insoluble in 10% sodium hydroxide, and concentrated boiling hydrochloric acid. Solubility at 25°C: 19 g/100 g benzene; 10 g/100 g catalytically cracked gasoline; 9 g/100 g straight run gasoline; 6 g/100 g jet fuel (jp-4); and 5 g/100 g diesel fuel; 20 mg/mL in 2-methoxyethanol; 7 mg/ml in ethanolp>Synonyms: CCRIS 3195; DTXSID9025326; KTWOOEGAPBSYNW-UHFFFAOYSA-N; UNII-U96PKG90JQ; Iron, bis(eta5-2,4-cyclopentadien-1-yl)-; FERROCENE; Catane; AN-24610; DSSTox_RID_77749; Bis(cyclopentadienyl)iron, Di(cyclopentadienyl)iron
