Latrobe Dynavan™ ASTM T15 Super High Speed Steel
Categories: Metal; Ferrous Metal; Alloy Steel; Carbon Steel; High Carbon Steel; Tool Steel

Material Notes: DYNAVAN (T15) is a super high speed steel designed for extra-high wear resistance and superior hot hardness. These properties result from the high carbon and vanadium contents which produce numerous, very-hard vanadium carbides and from the cobalt, which resists softening at elevated temperature. The large vanadium carbides, which impart the high wear resistance, take the steel difficult to machine and difficult to grind after heat treatment. Applications for this steel should be confined to heavy-duty work and to tools where low grindability will not be a disadvantage, such as single point or inserted blade cutting tools.

Information Provided by Timken Latrobe Steel.

Timken sold Latrobe in December 2006. They are now Latrobe Specialty Steels Co.
