Product description: VINNAPAS® AF 474 is an aqueous dispersion of a hydroxy-functional acrylate copolymer. Properties: VINNAPAS® AF 474 adheres extremely well to metals and many polar plastics and forms a transparent coating at room temperature. The dispersion's thermoplastic properties make it heat sealable. However if crosslinked with suitable reactants via the hydroxyl group VINNAPAS® AF 474 forms films that resist heat-sealing even at high temperatures. Application: VINNAPAS® AF 474 is used for coating plastics, for rendering films heat sealable and, preferably in combination with melamine resins, for producing heat seal-resistant coatings with good water resistance, especially on aluminum foil. Depending on the formulation, VINNAPAS® AF 474 imparts heat-seal resistance up to 250 °C. Coatings based on VINNAPAS® AF 474 offer excellent printability. VINNAPAS® AF 474 substrates are especially suitable for printing with aqueous, acrylate-based printing-ink systems but as well with NC- or UV-inks. VINNAPAS® AF 474 is processed with conventional film-coating equipment, such as doctor blade or roller coaters. Drying conditions depend on the substrate's heat stability and on the final application where the polymers in VINNAPAS® AF 474 must remain thermoplastic, for example, or be crosslinked. Drying is normally at temperatures of up to 200 °C for a maximum of 20 minutes. Preliminary tests are needed to check the impact of additives, such as crosslinkers, on the heat stability of VINNAPAS® AF 474. Information provided by Wacker Chemie AG. |
