Grade 706 Zirconium (Zr-2.5Nb)
Categories: Metal; Nonferrous Metal; Zirconium Alloy

Material Notes: Characteristics:
  • Comparison to Grade 705: lower oxygen content, greater elongation and lower tensile strength
  • High corrosion resistance to super-heated water, yet lower than the Zircaloys
  • Forms a stable, dense, self-healing oxide layer
  • Highly anisotropic

Applications: Pressure tubes in heavy water reactors

Machining Parameters: Use slow speeds, heavy feeds and flood cooling with a water-soluble oil lubricant.

Key Words: UNS R60706, Zircadyne® 706
