Cabot ENERSIL® 2030 KD Silica Additive
Categories: Other Engineering Material; Additive/Filler for Polymer

Material Notes: Fumed silica additive for lead acid batteries
ENERSIL 2030 KD “kiss densed” silica additive is suitable for use in gel and hybrid absorbent glass mat (AGM)-gel battery electrolytes. As an electrolyte additive, it can significantly reduce acid stratification, enable extended battery cycle life, improve cell-to-cell consistency and reduce battery pack maintenance. ENERSIL 2030 KD silica additive is a kiss densed version of the ENERSIL 2030 product with approximately 50% higher tamped density, which makes it suitable for direct dispersion in sulfuric acid electrolyte. ENERSIL 2030 KD silica additive maintains good dispersibility and stability in dispersions used in the production of gel and hybrid AGM-gel batteries. ENERSIL 2030 KD silica additive is typically added to sulfuric acid electrolyte either by direct mixing or by preparing a 10 - 20 wt.% dispersion in water with or without dispersion stabilizers. Because of its unique morphology, ENERSIL 2030 KD silica additive is easier to disperse compared to other silica products and its dispersion viscosity remains stable during the battery filling process, providing uniformity of the gel distribution between the battery plates. ENERSIL 2030 KD silica additive is especially suitable for use in gel lead acid batteries in various industrial and energy storage systems applications used in combination with solar and wind renewable energy sources. The key benefit of ENERSIL 2030 KD silica additive for these applications is its ability to provide excellent gel strength at lower silica loadings in the electrolyte versus other silica additives. ENERSIL 2030 KD silica additive was designed specifically for use in lead acid battery applications. Each production lot is tested for dispersion stability characteristics to confirm quality consistency.
