Covestro Desmocap® 12 A Epoxy Coating
Categories: Polymer; Thermoplastic; Adhesives, Sealants, and Coatings; Thermoset; Epoxy

Material Notes: Desmocap 12 A is a linear polyurethane prepolymer with crosslinking blocked isocyanate groups. As a raw material for the flexibilisation of epoxy resins and in the formulation of flexible coatings and sealants. Desmocap 12 A yields softer and more flexible systems than Desmocap 11 A.

Composition A: Epoxy value of 0.5 – 0.55: 70, Desmocap 12A prepolymer: 30, Laromin C 260: 24.5; Composition B: Epoxy value of 0.5 – 0.55: 50, Desmocap 12A prepolymer: 50, Laromin C 260: 18.5; Composition D: Epoxy value of 0.5 – 0.55: 30, Desmocap 12A prepolymer: 70, Laromin C 260: 12.5

Properties / Applications: Desmocap 12 A can be used to formulate curable, liquid, solvent-free polyurethane systems. The polyamines normally used with epoxy resins are suitable curing agents. The best results are obtained with cycloapliphatic diamines, e.g. Laromin® C 260, Ancamine® XT, TCD-Diamin and xylenediamine. When combined with epoxy resins, Desmocap 12 A takes over the function of the reactive flexibiliser. As with any product, use of Desmocap 12 A in a given application must be tested (including but not limited to field testing) in advance by the user to determine suitability.
