Material Notes: Product highlights: CAB-O-SIL TS-5022 fumed silica has a surface that has been treated with hexamethyldisilazane (HMDZ). This treatment replaces hydroxyls on the surface of the silica, resulting in increased hydrophobicity and very different performance features than untreated silica

CAB-O-SIL TS-5022 fumed silica can enable the following performance features:
  • Rheology control
  • Anti-sag
  • Anti-settling of pigments and fillers
  • Excellent film appearance (high clarity and gloss, low orange peel and solvent popping)
Key applications: Automotive and industrial coating systems: In clear automotive and industrial coatings applications where surface appearance is a key performance indicator, CAB-O-SIL TS-5022 hydrophobic treated fumed silica can provide a good balance of sag resistance, flow and leveling. Incorporating it into a coatings formulation also results in less orange peel and low solvent popping, and promotes a smooth coated surface. In highly filled systems, CAB-O-SIL TS-5022 hydrophobic treated fumed silica can promote good anti-settling of the filler without excessive and unwanted increase in viscosity.
