Covestro Crelan® NI 2 Polyurethane Coating
Categories: Polymer; Thermoplastic; Adhesives, Sealants, and Coatings; Thermoset; Polyurethane, TS

Material Notes: Crelan NI 2 is a blocked aliphatic polyisocyanate based on IPDI. It is suitable as a hardener for polyurethane powder coatings.

Properties / Applications: Coatings based on Crelan NI 2 are characterized by their excellent flow properties and high gloss values. Depending on the polyester used, excellent gloss retention and chalking resistance in outdoor weathering can be obtained. As powder coatings based on Crelan NI 2 also provide good corrosion protection properties, they are ideal for use in outdoor applications. Crelan NI 2 is a hardener for hydroxyl-bearing polyesters based on IPDI. A NCO : OH ratio of 1.0 is recommended for optimum film properties. Slight undercrosslinking (NCO : OH ratio = 0.9) is possible depending on the co-reactants used and the film properties required. Overcrosslinking produces no advantages. As with any product, use of Crelan NI 2 in a given application must be tested (including but not limited to field testing) in advance by the user to determine suitability.
