Murlin BCP 600 Aluminum Grade Bone Ash Mold Release
Categories: Ceramic; Wood and Natural Products

Material Notes: Description: MURLIN Aluminum Grade Bone Ash, which is prepared by burning the organic material from animal bones, has long been recognized by the non-ferrous metals casting industry as a mold release agent offering a number of benefits. It is not wetted by molten non-ferrous metals. Therefore it provides superior protection to surfaces exposed to molten metals, such as molds or refractories in transfer troughs, filter boxes and other vessels. A pure natural product, it is manufactured under strictly controlled conditions, unlike other dressings which often contain impurities, such as iron, bone ash cannot contaminate castings. Because bone ash adheres well to mold surfaces, non-ferrous metal castings obtained from molds dressed with bone ash consistently feature a smoother finish and are virtually free from holes, cracks and other surface defects. An equal quantity of bone ash covers up to three times more surface than an equal quantity of other agents. It is non-toxic, poses no fire hazard and requires no special handling precautions. As with any other fine powder-like substance, normal protection against dust should be taken, including the use of adequate ventilation and/or dust masks. Molds, refractories and other surfaces can be skimmed, wiped or brushed clean readily. Bone ash waste may be emptied into industrial sewers or removed to dumps in accordance with local, state or federal regulations applicable to non-hazardous materials.

Application: Murlin AG Natural Bone Ash may be applied in several ways, including:

  • Dry Application. In its dry form, bone ash may be packed on by cloth glove.
  • Slurry Application. A slurry of bone ash and water may be brushed, sprayed or painted onto the surface.
  • Slurry Pre-Treatment. A third option is to pre-treat the surface with a slurry of bone ash, after which the dry bone ash may be applied.
In all cases, best results are obtained when bone ash is applied over new or well cleaned surfaces.
