Evonik TEGOPREN® 5885 Additive
Categories: Other Engineering Material; Additive/Filler for Polymer

Material Notes: Product description: TEGOPREN® 5885 is a hydrophobic, non-ionic, polyether siloxane based wetting and dispersing agent.

Application: TEGOPREN® 5885 is a highly efficient substrate wetting additive for a variety of systems:

  • water-based systems as used for paper laminates and other application
  • solvent-based or solvent–containing systems
TEGOPREN® 5885 is a highly efficient dispersing agent, which improves the incorporation of fillers in different types of plastics like EVA, X-PE, PE etc. and therefore suitable for cable compounds. TEGOPREN® 5885 is a highly efficient additive for pulp and paper antifoams based on organic oils or siloxanes to improve their performance.

Benefits: Especially suitable for water-based formulations, where the following advantages can be observed:

  • No or very low foam formation, even if no additional defoamer is used
  • Improves the wetting of low energy substrates due to extreme lowering of the surface tension of water-based systems
  • Improved durability
TEGOPREN® 5885 is a hydrophobic surfactant with a high affinity to fillers. The use in the production of cable compounds shows outstanding advantages like:
  • improved dispersing of fillers
  • better hydrophobicity
  • smooth and supple cable surfaces
  • no influence on afterwards printing
By use of TEGOPREN® 5885 in pulp and paper defoamer formulations, the following benefits can be achieved:
  • Improved knock down and hold down of defoamers containing TEGOPREN® 5885
  • Better high pH stability versus conventional polyethersiloxane boosted defoamers
  • Cost savings based on better fiber wetting during brown stock washing and bleaching
