High Nitrogen 304 stainless steel. Austenitic Cr-Ni stainless steel. Nitrogen provides higher tensile and tensile yield strength without diminishing ductility, corrosion resistance, or nonmagnetic properties. Better corrosion resistance than Type 302. High ductility, excellent drawing, forming, and spinning properties. Essentially non-magnetic, becomes slightly magnetic when cold worked. Low carbon content means less carbide precipitation in the heat-affected zone during welding and a lower susceptibility to intergranular corrosion. Applications: Aircraft and Aerospace components, marine components, high temperature components, pressure vessels, pump components, welded tubing, forged fittings, pipe flanges, and valves. Weldability: Can be brazed and welded using common methods. Grain-boundary carbide precipitation can occur in heat-affected zones (HAZ). Annealing will restore corrosion resistance to the weldment. |
