Ethylene maleic anhydride copolymers in pastille form. The functionalization of a non polar polyethylene with 3% maleic anhydride, yielding a saponification (SAP) number of 35, provides the low molecular weight copolymer with non polar and polar characteristics, enough so that it can be emulsified and used in aqueous systems. The grafting of maleic anhydride provides polarity without polymer degradation, such as oxidation will. The maleic anhydride provides the ability to boost adhesion making it very suitable for adhesive applications. The low level of maleic anhydride, along with a patented Honeywell grafting process, aids thermal stability versus the competition and more highly maleated versions. Provides a boost in adhesion to paraffin based coatings for cardboard box coatings/saturants, providing increased moisture resistance and crush strength. It is used as a coupling agent for mineral or cellulosic filled composite systems.Information provided by Honeywell |
