Avient Polystrand ThermoBallistic™ TBE8010X X-Ply Cross-Ply Polypropylene-Glass Composite  (discontinued **)
Categories: Polymer; Tape; Thermoplastic; Polypropylene (PP)

Material Notes: 2-Ply with Fiber Orientation at 0° & 90°.

. Polystrand ThermoBallistic laminates combine continuous E-Glass (ThermoBallistic-E™) structural fibers with a proprietary polypropylene thermoplastic polymers to form sheets, ribbons or tapes that can be subsequently molded to create end-use applications including ballistic and blast panels to protect troops, vehicles, equipment and buildings.

The Polystrand materials and process technologies combine continuous structural fibers with an energy-dissipating matrix of thermoplastic polymer. This results in a reinforced thermoplastic composite that has many advantages compared to traditional, more brittle thermosetting polymer composites in ballistic panels. The many performance benefits of Polystrand ThermoBallistic materials include:

  • Exceptional Energy Management Properties (ballistic, blast and high strain-to-failure)
  • Improved V50 Performance Against a 30 Caliber FSP (ThermoBallistic E)
  • Lighter Weight (automotive, aircraft and defense applications)
  • X-Ply™ 0/90 Laminates up to 50" x 100" (1.27m x 2.54m) and rolls
  • 100% Recyclable (no material waste)
  • Reduced Molding Cycles (higher productivity and lower cost)
  • Re-Formable (panels can be reconfigured multiple times)
  • Design Flexibility (fiber selection and fiber orientation)
