Empirical formula: C13H29NO3Si CAS No.: 26495-91-0 Properties: GENIOSIL® XL 926 binds via its aminomethyl group to electrophilic groups in resins and polymers. Aside from groups such as epoxides and esters, it is particularly the isocyanate groups present in polyurethanes that are important here. GENIOSIL® XL 926 is characterized by its high reactivity toward moisture, a direct consequence of the nitrogen atom's proximity to the silicon atom within the molecule (alpha-effect).The basicity of the secondary amino group renders GENIOSIL® XL 926 "autocatalytic" while the trialkoxysilyl moiety results in very high crosslinking density. GENIOSIL® XL 926 also offers advantages in all applications requiring high reactivity combined with the release of ethanol rather than methanol. By binding GENIOSIL® XL 926 to polymers such as polyurethanes, the manifold advantages of silane crosslinking can be transferred to other systems. Special features: GENIOSIL® XL 926 is an (aminomethyl)alkylsilane. It´s a clear, colorless to light yellowish liquid with a characteristically aromatic odor. The silane hydrolyzes in the presence of moisture (ethanol is released) to form silanols, which can then react with themselves to produce siloxanes. The close proximity of the nitrogen atom to the silicon atom results in a greatly accelerated hydrolysis reaction compared to (aminopropyl) silanes (alpha-effect). Application: GENIOSIL® XL 926 is used in the production of silylmodified polymers which serve as binders in adhesives and sealants. Of particular importance is the reaction with materials containing isocyanate groups (PU prepolymers). GENIOSIL® XL 926 is also used as a crosslinker, water scavenger and adhesion promoter in silane crosslinking formulations, such as adhesives, sealants and coatings.
