Wacker Geniosil® GF 62 Silane
Categories: Other Engineering Material; Additive/Filler for Polymer

Material Notes: Empirical formula: C8H12O6Si

CAS No.: 4130-08-9

Properties: The use of GENIOSIL® GF 62 as a crosslinker in acetoxy-crosslinking silicone systems permits selective adjustment of the crosslinking density and – in conjunction with additional additives - control of the crosslinking speed. Use of GENIOSIL® GF 62 in mineral-filled polymers (e.g. polymer filled with kaolin, ATH or magnesium hydroxide) leads to a marked improvement in the mechanical and electrical properties, as well as to increased moisture resistance in particular. In addition, the particles are rendered strongly water repellent, which results in improved filler dispersibility, reduced melt viscosity and thus easier processing. Use of GENIOSIL® GF 62 as a comonomer in polymers produces binders which exhibit much greatly improved wet scrub resistance and higher scratch resistance, for example, thanks to crosslinking and strong adhesion to the substrate.

Special features: GENIOSIL® GF 62 is a vinylacetoxysilane. It´s a corrosive, clear, colorless to slightly yellow liquid with a characteristic vinegarlike odor. It hydrolyzes in the presence of moisture (acetic acid is released) to form silanols, which can react with themselves to produce siloxanes or bind to inorganic substrates. As a bifunctional, organically unsaturated molecule, GENIOSIL® GF 62 is able to function as a molecular bridge between inorganic and organic substrates.

Application: GENIOSIL® GF 62 is mainly used in acetoxycrosslinking silicone sealants, in which it functions as a crosslinker and/or adhesion promoter. In addition, GENIOSIL® GF 62 is used in the production of surface-modified fillers, as a water scavenger and as a primer component.
