LyondellBasell Petrothene® NA214000 Low Density Polyethylene
Categories: Polymer; Thermoplastic; Polyethylene (PE); Low Density (LDPE); Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), Extrusion Grade

Material Notes: Applications
PETROTHENE NA 214-000 is a low density polyethylene resin specifically designed for high speed, light weight, extrusion coating applications. This resin can be drawn down to a coating weight of three pounds per ream at line speeds exceeding 1,500 fpm with minimum neck-in and no edge weave. NA 214-000 can be used for applications including sugar pouches, industrial and multi-wall bags, treated and primed films and laminations.

Regulatory Status
NA 214-000 meets requirements of the Food and Drug Administration regulations 21 CFR 177.1520 and 21 CFR 176.170. These regulations (respectively) allow for the use of the olefin polymer in "…articles or components of articles intended for use in contact with food; "or as components of the uncoated or coated food-contact surface of paper and paperboard intended for use in producing, manufacturing, packaging, processing, preparing, treating, packing, transporting or holding aqueous and fatty food." Specific limitations or conditions of use may apply.

Processing Techniques
A melt temperature of 590°-620°F is recommended for use in processing NA 214-000 in light-weight coating applications. Electrostatic, flame or chemical priming should be used to ensure good adhesion. The maximum melt temperature that is recommended for NA 214-000 is 625°F.
