Empirical formula: C6H15NO4Si CAS No.: 23432-65-7 Properties: GENIOSIL® XL 65 is characterized by its high reactivity toward moisture, a direct consequence of the structural proximity of the nitrogen atom to the silicon atom (alpha-effect).On account of its highly reactive nature, GENIOSIL® XL 65 is of substantial importance in systems that cure very rapidly at room temperature on exposure to (atmospheric) moisture. This applies particularly to formulations in which alphaorganofunctional terminal groups function as crosslinkers. The addition of GENIOSIL® XL 65 greatly improves the storage stability. GENIOSIL® XL 65 is especially suitable for producing highly flexible products with a low modulus of elasticity. This is because the dialkoxysilyl group functions as a chain extender during curing of the prepolymer, producing a lower degree of crosslinking. Special features: GENIOSIL® XL 65 is an alkoxysilane with an O-methyl carbamate organofunctional group. It´s a clear, colorless to light yellowish liquid with a characteristically aromatic odor. The silane hydrolyzes in the presence of moisture (methanol is released) to form silanols, which can then react with themselves to produce siloxanes. The close proximity of the nitrogen atom to the silicon atom results in a greatly accelerated hydrolysis reaction (alphaeffect). GENIOSIL® XL 65 is a highly reactive molecule capable of scavenging water in formulations. Application: GENIOSIL® XL 65 is used as a water scavenger in the production of moisture-curing adhesive and sealant formulations. It is important particularly in systems using highly reactive silane-modified polymers basedon alpha-organofunctional silanes. As a bifunctional silane, GENIOSIL® XL 65 functions additionally as a chain extender and is thus ideally suited for highly flexible products. Information provided by Wacker Chemie AG. |
