LyondellBasell Petrothene® NA217000 Low Density Polyethylene
Categories: Polymer; Thermoplastic; Polyethylene (PE); Low Density (LDPE); Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), Extrusion Grade

Material Notes: Applications
PETROTHENE NA 217-000 is a high speed, lightweight coating resin for use with paper, films and other base stocks. This resin can yield coating weights down to 3.5 lbs/ream at line speeds of 1200 ft./min. or higher. Products made from materials coated with NA 217-000 include flexible packaging, milk cartons, industrial papers and foil mounting, single-ply bags, pouch bags, board trays, fiber drums, corrugated boxes and fiberboard containers.

Regulatory Status
NA 217-000 meets requirements of the Food and Drug Administration regulations 21 CFR 177.1520 and 21 CFR 176.170. These regulations (respectively) allow for the use of the olefin polymer in "…articles or components of articles intended for use in contact with food; "or as components of the uncoated or coated food-contact surface of paper and paperboard intended for use in producing, manufacturing, packaging, processing, preparing, treating, packing, transporting or holding aqueous and fatty food." Specific limitations or conditions of use may apply.

Processing Techniques
NA 217-000 can be applied to paper, foil, cellophane, polyester film and other base stocks by conventional extrusion coating processes. The maximum recommended melt temperature is 625°F.
