HB Fuller HydroArmor® 7775 Gray Coating
Categories: Polymer; Thermoplastic; Adhesives, Sealants, and Coatings

Material Notes: Description: HydroArmor® 7770 Series is sprayable, corrosion preventing, non-flammable, latex coatings designed to reduce sound transmission through a variety of substrates including cold rolled steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, primed steel, aluminum, fiberglass and plywood. These sag resistant coatings can be sprayed onto parts, ducting and fabricated enclosures. Wet film builds of up to 60 mils can be applied without runs, drips or sagging. Because these materials are filled with hollow microspheres, these materials add little weight to vehicles, even at high film builds. Our tests of HydroArmor® 7770 Series show these coatings are extremely durable under even the worst service conditions. In our lab, we have subjected HydroArmor® 7770 Series coated panels to several days at 121°C (250°F) and to immersion in acidic and caustic solutions; these tests did not affect the dried film. Exposure to anti-freeze, motor oil, transmission fluid, and washer fluid did not affect the corrosion protection of the coating. When test panels were subjected to the “Gravelometer” at -40°C (-40°F), the rocks did not penetrate the coating. After weeks of exterior exposure cycling, the HydroArmor® coating remains intact and there is no adhesion loss. The coating dries quickly at ambient temperatures to a hard but flexible coating. HydroArmor® is as safe to use and as easy to clean up as latex house paint. HydroArmor® 7770 Series provides better corrosion protection than most of the competitive products we’ve tested. HydroArmor® 7770 Series provides sound damping comparable to many of the solvent-borne products we have tested without the environmental and safety problems inherent in these competitive coatings.

Application: As with any coating, all loose dirt and dust should be removed from the surface to be coated before application. HydroArmor® 7770 Series is designed to be applied with airless spray equipment. We recommend that a minimum film thickness of 0.030” of HydroArmor® be applied; increasing the coating thickness will increase the sound dampening performance. We suggest using at least a 30:1 pump with a Graco model 220-954 gun. Spray orifices from 0.021” to 0.031”. As with all air motor pumps, adequate air volume is required. HydroArmor® resists water wash-off after air drying 30 minutes at 45- 55% relative humidity; if not baked, it dries through in 24 hours or less (drying is slowed by high humidity and poor air circulation). Until HydroArmor® dries, overspray can be removed and equipment can be cleaned with water. Dried material can be removed with methyl ethyl ketone.
