Glyptal 1212 Aluminum Enamel
Categories: Polymer; Thermoset; Alkyd

Material Notes: GLYPTAL 1212 ALUMINUM ENAMEL is an air-drying or baking general purpose interior and exterior finishing paint. It is GLYPTAL 1202 Varnish furnished with an aluminum paste in a two-compartment container for on-the-job mixing. It has a glossy, brilliant, and metal-like finish with good leafing retention and weather durability.

Suggested Uses: 1212 is suggested for finishing equipment which must stand prolonged temperatures up to 400 ºF. It is ideally suited for the painting of steam lines, ovens, structural iron, wire fencing and exterior piping. It is also suitable for the covering of windows and storage tanks to reflect the sun’s rays.

Application: 1212 may be applied by brush or spray application methods. Proper mixing is obtained by making a smooth paste of the aluminum and approximately 15% of the vehicle and then blending in the rest of the vehicle. Surfaces to be painted should be clean and dry.

Number of Coats: One coat will cover in most applications, but for good exterior weathering, two coats are recommended.

Reduction: Brush: Use at can consistency. Small amounts of mineral spirits may be added if thinning is required. Spray: Should be thinned to 25 sec #2 Zahn Cup with G1500 Thinner.

Surface Preparation: Surfaces to be painted should be dry and free from dirt, wax, grease, rust, and oil. Remove grease and oil by washing surface with mineral spirits. Bare metal surfaces should be primed with 1272 Red Primer.
