Product description: SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE is a 100% actives solvent dispersible silicone compound designed to control foam in both aqueous and non-aqueous foaming systems. It can be easily emulsified for use in aqueous systems. SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE contains those ingredients which conform to the FDA requirements as published in the CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS. (Under Title 21 "Food and Drugs," Part 173, "Secondary Direct Food Additives Permitted in Food for Human Consumption," Paragraph 173.340 "Defoaming Agents".) Because this regulation contains limitations, compliance to the regulation is the responsibility of the law. SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE also meets other FDA guidelines. When SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE is used directly in food products or for food processing, the maximum amount of silicone permitted should be 10 ppm silicone or 10 ppm SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE. Rinsing food with copious amounts of fresh potable water is required after processing. SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE meets NSF Category Code 3D-it is acceptable for use in meat, poultry and other food processing areas, when used to wash fruits and vegetables that will become ingredients in meat, poultry and rabbit products. After use, the fruits and vegetables must be rinsed thoroughly in potable water. SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE also meets NSF Category Code Q5 (for use in egg washing machines). Shell eggs using this material must be immediately rinsed in warm potable water containing an EPA registered sanitizer. In both NSF instances, the maximum amount of silicone permitted should be 10 ppm (ie. 10 ppm SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE) in the final food product SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE also can be used in agricultural applications, regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The material meets 40CFR 180.1001(c) and -(d) criteria. SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE can also be used in various industrial and consumer applications. The amount of SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE required is best determined by trial and error in the actual working conditions. Levels required may vary from a few ppm to 100 ppm, depending upon the severity of the situation. Application: It is recommended that SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE be stirred under low shear for a few minutes before using. This will ensure that the fillers are completely dispersed in the material. SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE is most efficient if introduced into the system before foaming has begun. SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE may be introduced as is by dispersing in one or more of the ingredients of the system in which foam is to be controlled. An alternate method is to disperse the SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE in an appropriate solvent and then add this dispersion to the system in which foam control is desired diluents - Aromatic hydrocarbons – toluene
- Aliphatic hydrocarbons - mineral spirits, t-butanol
- Esters
Note: If solvents are used to aid dispersing the SILFOAM® SC 203 FOOD GRADE, the FDA and food contact sanctioning becomes null and void.Information provided by Wacker Chemie AG. |
