Latrobe LSS™ H21 Hot Work Tool Steel (ASTM H21)
Categories: Metal; Ferrous Metal; Alloy Steel; Tool Steel; Hot Work Steel

Material Notes: TLS H21 hot work tool steel is a low-carbon, tungsten hot work steel that exhibits excellent resistance to softening at elevated temperature. This grade is intended for elevated-temperature service in which tool operate at dull-red heat. For best results, TLS H21 hot work steel should not be water cooled in service unless the tool design includes a continuous flow of internal water cooling. Spray cooling and thermal shock should be avoided. Tools should be thoroughly preheated before entering service. TLS H21 hot work tool steel is recommended for difficult hot work tooling applications such as brass extrusion tooling, brass die casting dies, hot punches, and forging die inserts.

Information Provided by Timken Latrobe Steel.

Timken sold Latrobe in December 2006. They are now Latrobe Specialty Steels Co.
