ChevronTexaco Polystar® Synthetic 4602 NLGI Grade
Categories: Fluid; Lubricant; Urea Gellant

Material Notes: Texaco Polystar Synthetic 4602 delivers value through:
  • Wide application range — Suitable for high rpm operation, operating temperatures ranging from -40°C to 230°C (-40°F to 446°F) and offers excellent rust protection in the presence of both salt and fresh water.
  • Excellent oxidation stability — Provides exceptional bearing life at high operating temperatures.
  • Excellent rust and corrosion protection — Provides superior rust protection as defined by ASTM D 1743.

Texaco Polystar Synthetic 4602 is a high temperature, synthetic based ball and roller bearing grease.

Texaco Polystar Synthetic 4602 passes the ASTM D 1743 73 rust test with 5% synthetic seawater. It provides longer bearing life under high speed and high temperature operation than most other widely used antifriction bearing greases. ASTM D 3527 wheel bearing life testing shows that the B50 life of a bearing lubricated with Texaco Polystar Synthetic 4602, operating at 160°C (320°F), is 300 - 460 hours, an outstanding result. FAG FE-9 ball bearing testing demonstrates that the Texcaco Polystar Synthetic 4602 will provide continuous duty lubrication at temperatures up to 180°C (356°F) with short exposure capability up to 230°C (446°F).

Texaco Polystar Synthetic 4602 is recommended in high temperature applications where other greases harden and will not perform, including:

  • A wide range of automotive and industrial applications.
  • Use in antifriction bearings operating at high speeds (10,000 rpm and greater).
  • Where the operating temperatures are on the order of 160°C (320°F) and higher.
  • Where there is a likelihood that water or salt water will get into the bearings.

It performs satisfactorily in bearings at temperatures as low as -40°C (-40°F).

Other applications where Texaco Polystar Synthetic 4602 is recommended include:

  • Bearings on air-conditioning units in homes and other buildings.
  • Unsealed electric motor bearings operating under moist conditions as well as bearings in generators, alternators and fans.
  • Bearings found in the dryer section of paper machine operations.

Typical test data are average values only. Minor variations which do not affect product performance are to be expected in normal manufacturing.

Notes:

  1. Minimum operating temperature is the lowest temperature at which a grease, already in place, could be expected to provide lubrication. Most greases cannot be pumped at these minimum temperatures.
  2. Maximum operating temperature is the highest temperature at which the grease could be used with frequent (daily) relubrication.
  3. Determined on mineral oil extracted by vacuum filtration.
