Material Notes: Description: Film Former for Glass Fiber Sizes
General Information: COIM has developed a range of polyesters for the treatment of glass fiber. These polyesters come in powder and emulsion form and are collectively known as FILCO®. The products in the FILCO® line serve to size glass fiber, to optimize the mechanical characteristics of the fiber, or to bind the fibers for the production of mat.
Typical Physical and Chemical Characteristics: Filco 358 is an unsaturated polyester resin easily dispersible in water. Characteristics of the dried film:
  • clear
  • non tacky
  • compatible with unsaturated polyesters and other thermosets
  • highly crosslinked
  • low yellowing at high temperature
  • insoluble in styrene

Applications: Filco 358 is suggested as a film former for continuous filament mat with low solubility.
